The Strokes - Angles

Se o Angles pudesse ser definido em uma palavra, esta seria: polêmico.
Não parece, mas o primeiro álbum dos Strokes foi lançado há dez anos. O aclamado Is This It já completou uma década, lançou a banda no cenário mundial e teve dois sucessores de peso: Room On Fire e First Impressions Of The Earth, mas depois deste último, lançado em 2006, a banda ficou cinco anos sem lançar nada novo. Até agora, com o Angles.

Nesse contexto, é impossível não perguntar: a espera valeu a pena?
Alguns fãs podem dizer que sim, que o álbum está maravilhoso. Outros podem dizer que não, o álbum está horrível. No caso de Angles, nem um dos extremos está certo. Um meio termo é mais adequado.

A primeira ouvida pode ser algo inesperado. O começo de Machu Picchu soa diferente de qualquer música anteriormente lançada pela banda.
Under Cover Of Darkness começa em um mesmo estilo, mas logo soa um pouco como o Strokes de antigamente, por isso talvez seja a que mais me agradou no disco.
Aliás, a grande maioria das que mais me agradaram são as que mais se assemelham com o som do Strokes de sempre. Gratisfaction é um bom exemplo, Metabolism talvez um pouco.

A tentativa de "inovar" na maioria da músicas, por assim dizer, não foi tão bem-vinda por muitos fãs antigos, e confesso que não me agradou muito também, mas o álbum está longe de ser ruim como muita gente disse.
Comparado aos outros trabalhos da banda, sem dúvida alguma, ele é fraco, mas ainda sim, não deixa de ser um álbum bom. Só depende do ângulo que você o vê.

If Angles could be resumed in only one word, that would be: polemic.
It doesn't seems, but the first Strokes' album was released ten years ago. The acclaimed Is This It has already completed one decade and had two great followers: Room On Fire and First Impressions Of The Earth, but this one, released on 2006, the band stayed five years without releasing anything new. Up to now, with Angles.

In this context, it's impossible not to ask: did the wait compensate?
Some might say yes, that the album is wonderful. Some might say no, the album is terrible. In this case, none of the options is right. A middle-term would be more correct.

The first listen may be something unexpected. The beginning of Machu Picchu sounds different from anything the band released before.
Under Cover Of Darkness starts in the same style, but soon it reminds me the 'old' Strokes, maybe that's the reason why it is the song from this album that pleased the most.
Moreover, the great part of the ones that pleased me more, were the most similars to the usual Strokes. Gratisfaction is a good example, Metabolism a little.

The tentative of "inovate" in the most part of the songs, for saying it so, wasn't that welcom to many old fans, and I do confess that it didn't pleased me too, but the álbum is far from being bad as many people said.
Compared to the other works of the band, with no doubt, it is weaker, but it stills being a good album. It only depends from what angle you see it.
